The Need

Through our parish-wide conversations about a fundraising campaign, we found that we share a longing for our church and grounds to embody more fully the welcome and grace we have found here. Cramped spaces in our main building constrain our ministries and limit accessibility and comfort. Making our spaces more usable and renewing what has grown worn are also high priorities.

The Open Door Project will renew our spiritual home to better accommodate this lively and growing household of faith, by improving the aesthetics, comfort, and functionality of the places where we worship, learn, connect, serve, and play.

MAIN BUILDING RENOVATION $671,000

Our main building will be completely renovated to improve space and access. The kitchen will be updated and enlarged. Fully ADA-accessible, gender-neutral restrooms on the main floor, and an elevator with access to all three levels, will demonstrate our respect for the dignity of every human being. Lower-level classrooms will be reconfigured to better accommodate our Christian Formation programs, and a patio outside the Gathering Area will facilitate use of our grounds. Carpet and paint will be renewed throughout the building.

NAVE RENOVATION $141,000

The nave, our worship space, will be renovated with an attractive, durable stained concrete floor. The sliding glass doors will be reconditioned for greater energy efficiency and ease of use, and our worn chairs will be replaced with new seating which will allow our largest room to be readily re-configured from worship to a shared meal, coffee hour, or open space.

PARISH CENTER RENOVATION $140,000

The Parish Center will be renovated and re-integrated into our parish life. Work will include opening up the lower level into more useful space, updating kitchen and lighting, and adding an upstairs bathroom. The lower level will be used by our youth groups, while the upper level will serve as much-needed additional meeting and event space.

GROUNDS CARE $66,000

Our parking lot urgently needs repair, for reasons of both safety and aesthetics. In addition, reworking our stormwater system will mitigate chronic flooding and erosion problems on our property, and reduce our ecological footprint by minimizing runoff.

COMMUNITY PROJECT FUND $70,000

Our parish is committed to loving our neighbors, in response to Jesus’ call. As in past capital campaigns at St. Dunstan’s, we will commit a portion of the funds we raise to serve the wider community. These funds will be used to develop a new project to address a local need, and offer our members opportunities to learn, engage, and serve. This project will be developed after the campaign has concluded, but members can begin prayerfully noticing needs in our community now.

OTHER EXPENSES $25,000

Also included in the campaign goal are fees for consulting services and other campaign costs.

TOTAL $1,113,000

CHALLENGE GOAL $1,223,000

If we are able to exceed our primary goal, we can do even more! An additional $68,000 would allow us to replace our parking lot rather than simply repair it, which would address structural issues and save future costs. Air conditioning the nave, for those hot summer Sundays, would cost an additional $12,000. Finally, we would like to boost our Community Project Fund by $30,000, for a total of $100,000.
